Gujarat Titans (GT) stunned the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as they defeated them by seven runs in Match 30 of IPL 2023 in Lucknow. A victory seemed inevitable for the home side, especially with skipper KL Rahul occupying the crease right till the 20th over of their 136-run chase. However, a clinical bowling display from the GT bowlers saw the Super Giants losing their way completely.
Captain Hardik Pandya won the toss, and the visitors elected to bat first. Wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha struck 47 while his opening partner Shubman Gill bagged a duck. Hardik led his side from the front, smashing 66 off 50 with two fours and four maximums to take his side to a total of above 130. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the LSG bowlers for his spell of 2/16 (4).
During the chase, LSG batters Kyle Mayers and Krunal amassed 24 and 23 runs respectively. Skipper Rahul held one end while the rest of the batting line-up failed to provide support to him. The skipper got dismissed for 68 off 61 in the final over of the match. Mohit Sharma bowled brilliantly as he held his nerves to defend 12 runs in the last over. He grabbed the Player of the Match award for his match-winning spell of 2/17.
