Afghanistan and Pakistan will play the second ODI of the three-match series on August 24 at the the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota. A scintillating performance by Haris Rauf led to Pakistan dominating the Afghan team in the first ODI as they were all out for a mere 59 runs. Consequently, Pakistan secured a resounding victory, winning a substantial margin of 142 runs. With this triumph, Pakistan have positioned themselves favorably to clinch the series in the upcoming second ODI.

Imam-ul-Haq displayed his batting prowess, crafting a solid 61 off 94 to guide Pakistan beyond the 200-run mark. On the other hand, Afghanistan's bowling unit showcased its strength as Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed the initial wicket in his very first over, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed Babar Azam without allowing him to score. Mohammad Rizwan managed 21 runs before falling to Mujeeb. As the innings concluded, Mujeeb took three wickets, while Rashid and Nabi each secured two, containing Pakistan to 201.

Afghanistan faced a daunting challenge as the formidable pace attack of Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi shattered their top-order, leaving them struggling at 4/3. Remarkably, three of their top four batsmen were dismissed for a duck. Subsequently, Rauf wreaked havoc with a remarkable spell of 5/18 as Afghanistan were bowled out for a mere 59, their second lowest total in ODI history.

However, Afghanistan remains determined to mount a strong comeback in the second ODI, aiming to level the series and maintain the excitement for the eventual series decider – the 3rd ODI.
