After playing out a drawn Test series 0-0 (2), Pakistan and New Zealand now lock horns in a three-match ODI series from January 9, at the National Stadium in Karachi. The second and the third matches will take place on January 11 and 13 at the same venue. The top-ranked Kiwis and the fifth-placed Pakistani side will look to begin their preparations for the marquee event scheduled to be held in India.

Meanwhile, the second and final Test witnessed a thrilling finish between the two sides as the hosts Pakistan fell short of the target by just 15 runs and the Blackcaps by just one wicket. After an exciting series in the whites, the attention now moves to the 50-over format, especially with the global tournament just months away.

For the visitors, Kane Williamson will lead the side against a strong-looking Pakistan team. The ODI regulars Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf are back for the Men in Green while the Kiwis welcome destructive opener Finn Allen, spinner Mitchell Santner and speedster Lockie Ferguson.

Batters can expect conditions to favour them in Karachi and therefore, the captain winning the toss would look to bowl first as chasing is preferred at the National Stadium.

The Kiwis will be playing their first ODI on Pakistan soil after 2003. Back then, New Zealand got completely blanked in that series as the Men in Green defeated them 5-0 (5).

Pakistan has played 41 ODI matches at the venue and have won 22 and lost 17 while two games ended up with no result. Against the Kiwis, the Asian giants have contested two encounters with one victory and one loss to their name.
