Virat Kohli smashed a half-century and debutant pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up 3/20 in his four-over spell as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by a margin of 23 runs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on April 15. With this, DC have now lost five games in a tow while RCB registered their second victory in four games.
Speaking about how the encounter panned out, skipper David Warner won the toss, and the Capitals elected to field first. Kohli scored 50 off 34 with six fours and a maximum as he also brought up 2500 IPL runs at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Skipper Faf du Plessis amassed 22 while Glenn Maxwell and Mahipal Lomror racked up 24 and 26 runs respectively. The home side managed to reach a total of 174/6 in their allotted 20 overs with Mitchell Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav picking up two wickets apiece.
In reply, opener Prithvi Shaw’s horrendous run continued as he got run out for zero while Marsh also bagged a duck. Youngster Yash Dhull scored a solitary run with captain Warner getting dismissed for 19 off 13. Manish Pandey fought hard as he mustered 50 off 38 before getting out lbw to Wanindu Hasaranga. DC’s innings never really got going as they went on to lose yet another match in this edition. For his valuable fifty right at the top of the order, Kohli grabbed the Player of the Match award.

52 – Kohli has now smashed the second-most 50-plus scores (52) in the IPL. He surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 51 such scores. David Warner tops the chart with a total of 62.
6.80 – Prithvi Shaw has amassed just 34 runs in five innings at a poor average of 6.80 in this edition of the league.
4 – Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Glenn Maxwell for the fourth time in as many innings in the league.
99 – Kohli has grabbed 99 catches and is now third on the list. He went past Rohit Sharma’s tally of 97. Suresh Raina and Kieron Pollard are in the top two positions with 109 and 103 catches respectively.

2 – For the second time, DC have lost their first five encounters of an IPL season. They lost the first six in 2013.
