Johnson Charles hits the fastest century for West Indies in T20I

West Indies opening-batter Johnson Charles, toyed with the potent South African bowlers all round the ground, helping them post their highest T20I total in second T20I at Super Sports Park in Centurion on 26th March 2023. Charles amassed 118 runs from 46 balls, which included 10 fours and 11 maximums.
The right-handed opening batter became the fastest centurian for West Indies in T20I. He along with Kyle Mayers added 135 runs, a record partnership for the team in T20Is. Charles also became the fourth West Indian to score a T20I century. He was ably supported Kyle Mayers (51 off 27) and Romario Shepherd (unbeaten 41 off 18) who helped West Indies post record 258/5 in their 20 overs.
However, that did not prove to be enough as South Africa scripted a historic run-chase on the back of Quinton de Kock's staggering century. de Kock amassed 100 off just 44 balls, including nine fours and eight sixes, while Reeza Hendricks smacked 68 off just 28 in an opening partnership of 152 runs. Some crucial cameos from skipper Aiden Markram (unbeaten 38 off 21) and Heinrich Klaasen (unbeaten 16 off 7) helped South Africa chase the target with seven balls to spare.

259/4 - South Africa recorded the highest-ever T20I chase, bettering the previous record of Australia, who chased 245 against New Zealand in Auckland, 2018.

517 -The match between South Africa and West Indies recorded the highest match aggregate (517) in the history of T20s, surpassing previous record of 515 set by Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans in PSL 2023.
35 -Number of sixes recorded in the match between South Africa and West Indies, the most in T20I internationals. The previous best (32) is shared between India vs West Indies in 2016 and Australia vs New Zealand in 2018.
2 - Quinton de Kock registered the second-fastest century for South Africa, bettering the Richard Levi’s tally of 45 balls. David Miller is the first in the list with his 35-ball century against Bangladesh.
1 - de Kock recorded the fastest fifty by a South African batter in T20Is, bettering his own record of 17 balls against England in 2020.
2 - de Kock became the second South African batter after Faf Du Plessis to score centuries in all formats.
102 -South Africa recorded 102 runs in the powerplay, which is the most by any team in Powerplay in T20Is, West Indies previously had the record with 98 runs in powerplay against Sri Lanka.
