Shreyas Iyer surpasses Suryakumar Yadav to become India's leading run-scorer across formats in 2022

Shreyas Iyer scored 82* in the first innings of the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh on Day 1 as the Indian team posted 278/6 in 90 overs at the end of day one. Cheteshwar Pujara scored crucial 90 runs and formed a defining 149-run partnership for the fifth wicket when India lost four wickets on just 112 runs.

Pujara was bowled out by Taijul Islam on 90 runs in the 85th over but Iyer remained at the crease with 82 runs off 169 balls at the end of Day 1. Iyer is enjoying an excellent run of form lately and now leads the scoring chart for India across formats in 2022. He has now scored 1489 runs from 38 innings across formats in 2022 and overtook Suryakumar Yadav in the chart.

In 2022, Iyer scored 724 runs from 15 ODI innings at an average of 55.69 and a strike rate of 91.52 with the help of six fifties and a hundred. Iyer has cemented his place in the Test team this year and is on the verge of scoring a hundred as well. He has scored 302 runs from just six innings at an average of 60.40 with the help of three fifties in international red-ball cricket in 2022.

The 28-year-old batter has recently lost his regular place in India's T20I sqaud and was not part of the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. But his numbers in T20I cricket in 2022 are very impressive as he managed to score 463 runs from 17 T20I innings at an average of 35.61 and a strike rate of 141.15 with the help of four fifties. 

Suryakumar Yadav scored the highest 1164 runs from 31 T20I innings for India in 2022 but struggled for a similar impact in ODIs this year. He scored only 260 runs from 12 ODIs at an average of 26.00 with the help of one fifty in 2022. Iyer now leads the chart by 65 runs and is expected to end the 2022 year as India's leading run-scorer across formats.
