Narayan Jagadeesan and his Tamil Nadu side shattered a flurry of records in Round 6 of the Elite Group C clash of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2022 against Arunachal Pradesh. The 26-year-old batter hammered 277 off just 141 with the help of 25 fours and 15 maximums at a deadly strike rate of 196.45 as he broke the 20-year-long record of the highest individual score by Alistair Brown in List A matches.

Tamil Nadu posted 506/2 in 50 overs on the board, the highest-ever total in List A cricket, surpassing England’s score of 498/4 against the Netherlands this year. Jagadeesan and his team won the encounter by a massive margin of 435 runs at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

England’s Brown had smacked 268 while playing for Surrey against Glamorgan at The Oval in Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy in the year 2002. Jagadeesan, who has played seven matches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), got released by his franchise ahead of the mini-auction that is set to take place next month in Kochi.

The right-handed batter is enjoying a prolific season in the VHT as he has scored 799 runs in just six innings at a staggering average of 159.80 with five centuries, all of them coming in successive matches. Going through a purple patch, Jagadeesan has now racked up the second-most runs in a single edition of VHT after Prithvi Shaw’s aggregate of 827 runs in the 2020/21 season. Notably, a lot of IPL franchises will be keeping an eye on the Man of the Moment, who has taken the current VHT campaign by storm with his scintillating form.

Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the records created/broken in Tamil Nadu vs Arunachal Pradesh match in the VHT 2022/23 season:

1 – Narayan Jagadeesan became the first batter to slam four successive centuries in List A cricket. Previously, three other players had four tons on the bounce – Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara in 2014/15, South Africa’s Alviro Petersen in 2015/16, and Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal in 2020/21.

506/2 – Tamil Nadu registered the highest-ever total of 506/2 in the history of List A cricket. Previously, England held the record for smashing 498/4 which came against the Netherlands this year.

277 – Tamil Nadu-born Narayan now holds the record for the highest individual score of 277 in List A matches. He surpassed Ali Brown, who slammed 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan 20 years back in 2002.

15 – Jagadeesam hit 15 sixes in his innings, which is now the highest by any player in an innings in VHT. He went past Yashasvi Jaiswal’s tally of 12 maximums against Jharkhand in the 2019/20 tournament.

5 – Jagadeesan has now hammered five tons in the ongoing campaign, which is the most in a single edition of VHT. Virat Kohli (2008/09), Padikkal (2020/21), Prithvi Shaw (2020/21), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (2021/22) all had four centuries each.

416 – Sai Sudharsan and Jagadeesan shared a 416-run opening partnership, which is the highest for any wicket in List A cricket. The previous best was 372 between Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels for the second wicket against Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup.

114 – Former CSK player Jagadeesan recorded the joint-fastest double-century in 114 deliveries in the format. Travis Head also reached his milestone in as many balls for South Australia against Queensland in 2021.

435 – Tamil Nadu defeated Arunachal Pradesh by 435 runs, the biggest victory in terms of runs in List A cricket’s history. Previously, Somerset beat Devon by a margin of 346 runs as they bowled their opposition out for just 67 while defending their 413/4 in the year 1990.

114 – Chetan Anand leaked 114 runs in his ten overs, which is the most by a bowler in List A cricket. Australia’s Mick Lewis went for 113 runs against South Africa in the famous Johannesburg ODI in 2006.

196.45 – Narayan boasted a strike rate of 196.45, the highest by a double centurion in List A matches. The previous best was 181.1 by Head, when he scored 230 off 127 against Queensland in 2021.

799 – Jagadeesan has now notched up the second-most runs (799) in an edition of this competition. Shaw amassed 827 runs in the 2020/21 VHT campaign.
