Women's T20 World Cup 2023 League Stage Stats Review: Harmanpreet Kaur's achievements, Ashleigh Gardner's feat and other stats

The league stage of eighth edition of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 has come to an end and four teams have made their way to the knock-out stage. Interestingly, the teams that played the semi-finals of the last edition have made it to the second round this time as well. The finalists of T20 World Cup 2020- India and Australia will lock horns in the first semi-final on February 23, 2023 at Cape Town.

The second semi-final will be played between England and South Africa- the teams who suffered heart-breaks in the previous edition. While England were eliminated after their semi-final fixture was abandonned due to rain, South Africa lost their game by 5 runs (DLS method). England will face hosts South Africa in the second semi-final  on February 24, 2023 at Cape Town.

Speaking about how the league stage panned out, England remained unbeaten throughout and won all four games played to take up the top spot in the Group B points table, followed by India who lost just one match in the league stage against the table toppers.

In Group A, Australia dominated over all other teams and won all the four games which placed them on top of the points table. The second spot was up for grabs as South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka were in contention till the final league stage game. But the hosts clinched a 10-wicket victory in the final league game and jumped to the second spot by virtue of a better run-rate.

Meanwhile let us look at the stats and numbers from the league stage of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023:

1- Harmanpreet Kaur became the first female Indian cricketer to achieve the feat of 3000 T20I runs. Overall, she's the fourth-highest run scorer in the format.

87- Smriti Mandhana notched up her career-best score in T20Is by scoring a 56-ball 87 in the final group game against Ireland.

151- India completed their highest-succesful run-chase in the history of the tournament when they chased down the 150-run target set by Pakistan in their campaign opener. 

126 -Nida Dar surpassed Anisa Mohammad’s tally of 125 wickets and became the leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is.

1- Deepti Sharma became the first Indian cricketer, male or female, to pick 100 wickets in T20Is. She surpassed Poonam Yadav's tally, who had taken 98 wickets.

1000- Suzie Bates became the first woman cricketer to achieve the milestone of 1000 runs in the history of Women’s T20 World Cup.

6- Muneeba Ali became the sixth player overall, and first Pakistani woman to score a century in Women’s T20 World Cup.

213- England notched up 213 runs in the match against Pakistan and became the first team to score 200+ runs in Women’s T20 World Cup. The previous highest was 195/3 by South Africa against Thailand in 2020. 

8- Australia have now reached the semi-finals on all eight occasions of the marquee event and become the only team to do so. Second in the list is team England, who have appeared in seven semi-finals.

5/15- India's Renuka Thakur registered her career-best T20I figures in the group game against England, which was also her maiden five-wicket haul in international cricket.

5/12- Australia's Ashleigh Gardner claimed her career-best figures of 5/12 during the group stage game against New Zealand in their campaign opener.
