Once the festival gets over, the idols get immersed in water, which runs the risk of water pollution, as the idols are made of mud and also carries Plaster of Paris. The amount of mercury and cadmium severely pollutes the atmosphere.

It was recorded in 2014 that 10,000 Ganesha idols were in Mumbai pandals alone. Clearly, the festivity gets bigger and bigger. It is also believed that the popular Lalbaugcha Raja was covered with an insurance of Rs 51 crores. Lord Ganesha has around 108 names, including Vighna Harta (the remover of obstacles) and Buddhi Pradaayaka (the giver of wisdom and intellect). The festival has a tremendous following and it always lifts up the spirits of all the followers.
