Like most of us, the cricketing universe is all excited about the New Year. The active cricketers along with the retired ones are eagerly looking forward to the 17th year of the millennium. 2017 is here and promises a lot of action. The year gone by was one of the best years for the game of cricket.

It started with the pump of Twenty20 cricket with the World T20, 2016 in India and there were the One Day International games here and there. In the second half, the focus completely shifted to the most sacred form of the game and there was an intense battle for the No.1 ranking as well.

Teams like West Indies had a great time in the T20s as they also won the World T20 title for the second time. England staged a remarkable development in their limited-overs game. The team that conventionally focused more on Tests shifted a lot of attention on the shorter formats and did excel. Brits ended up as runners up in the WT20 and also put up inspiring performances in ODIs.

Team India though couldn’t advance beyond the semi-final in the World T20 played at home had a great run in the longest format of the game and were unbeaten for the stretch of 2016 and ended the year as the numero uno ranked team and with the lead they have will certainly last there for a substantial period.

The players had a great time at various events, parties, vacations and a few preferred to spend quality time with their family. Among Indian cricketers legend, Sachin Tendulkar posted a picture wearing really cool glasses. Test skipper Virat Kohli uploaded a video message for his fans on social media platform Instagram. Virender Sehwag also recorded a video and pushed it on his Twitter account.

Among the international stars Chris Gayle, Kevin Pieterson, David Warner and others sent across wishes for their fans.
