To shrug off their dismal performance in their respective opening fixtures, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns in the Match 8 of IPL 2020 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Both SRH and KKR came in the match with a revamped squad and multiple changes.
Fans were hoping to witness a solid knock from the England international Jonny Bairstow, especially after his batting heroics of the previous match. In SRH’s opening game against RCB, he had slammed an impressive 43-ball 61. But Bairstow wasn’t able to withstand Pat Cummins’ pace. KKR’s record-breaking signing provided them with an early blow as he castled Bairstow’s off stump in the fourth over of the innings.
It was Manish Pandey who ultimately emerged as SRH’s talisman by smashing a brilliant half-century. On the back of Pandey’s 51 and Wriddhiman Saha’s sluggish 30, SRH managed to amass 142 runs on the board. KKR, in response, steamrolled SRH and their opener Shubman Gill made all the difference.
The youngster slammed a 62-ball 70 and hit 5 fours and 2 sixes to steer KKR to the victory. Eoin Morgan also stayed unbeaten on 42 as Dinesh Karthik and Co registered their first win of IPL 2020. Twitter heaped praise on Gill’s stellar batting display and congratulated KKR for their triumph. Saha, on the other hand, was trolled for his slow knock.
Sunil Gavaskar’s name was also trending on Twitter after the legendary batsman clarified his statement on Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. Gavaskar was yesterday bashed by many fans for allegedly passing a ‘sexist’ remark on Anushka.
He, however, doused the controversy by saying that he was referring to Virat-Anushka’s clip which had surfaced on the internet during the lockdown. In the video, the star couple was seen playing cricket in their building compound. After Gavaskar’s clarification, many fans tweeted in support of him and said that he doesn’t owe an apology to anyone.

2. Pragyan Ojha questions SRH’s batting order
Should #SunRisers have sent @MohammadNabi007 ahead of @Wriddhipops is a question they'd ask themselves to get some momentum in the middle overs to propel that total, but #KKR wiped that chase off rather comfortably in the end.

5. Lisa Sthalekar feels IPL skippers wouldn’t dare to bat first in the tournament

6. Sanjay Manjrekar praises Shubman Gill’s batting against Rashid Khan
Driving the leg spin down to long off & jogging a single & then driving the googly down to long on & ambling another single. This is ultimate domination of a spinner. Gill did that to Rashid tonight. #Gill #PureClass
