After an absolute run-scoring extravaganza in Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, the IPL 2020 caravan moved to Dubai where two prominent names of Indian cricket locked horns with each other. It was Virat Kohli facing his limited-overs deputy in 10th Match of the tournament as Royal Challengers Bangalore battled with Mumbai Indians at Dubai International Stadium.
The game also turned out to be a high-scoring thriller and the world witnessed second super over of IPL 2020. MI skipper Rohit, after winning the toss, put RCB to bat first as they amassed a daunting 201-run total on the back of AB de Villiers’ blistering half-century.
In reply, it was Ishan Kishan who emerged as MI’s talisman. He smacked a 58-ball 99 but failed to steer MI past the finishing line. The young wicketkeeper-batsman was also assisted by Kieron Pollard in the middle. Smoking 60 off just 24 deliveries, the Caribbean giant wreaked havoc on RCB bowlers in death overs. Pollard smoked 5 sixes and 3 fours during his carnage.
With both teams registering 201 on the scoreboard, it all boiled down to a dramatic super over. Navdeep Saini, flaunting his brilliance, only conceded 7 runs and laid the foundation of RCB’s victory. But the game wasn’t just yet over as RCB still had to face the lethal Jasprit Bumrah in the super over.
Skipper Kohli and De Villiers, on the back of their calibre and experience, were ultimately successful in hunting down the target in the super over. With this substantial win, Kohli’s men bagged their second victory in this year’s IPL. De Villiers also bagged the Man of the Match award for his impressive half-century in the first innings.
Twitter erupted after witnessing all the super over drama. While some fans felt for Ishan Kishan, some lauded the thrill of this year’s IPL matches. After registering two wins, RCB, in pursuit of their maiden IPL trophy, will next lock horns with a dominant Rajasthan Royals side on Saturday.
