The cricketing trends on Saturday once again revolved around the ICC World Cup, which saw some stunning performances from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s flabbergasting win over England sent shockwaves across the cricketing world and congratulatory texts poured in for the Asian side, especially for Lasith Malinga. The legendary fast bowler entered an exclusive club on Friday, becoming only the fourth bowler in history to pick 50 World Cup wickets.
Ben Stokes played a fantastic hand with the bat for England and Joe Root registered yet another half-century, but it wasn’t enough for the hot favorites to chase down 233 runs. The pitches in England are turning a bit slow and we saw another glimpse of it in the game between Afghanistan and India, where the Afghan spinners made the two-time champions work very hard to get 224 runs.
Kane Williamson scored another hundred for New Zealand in Manchester against the Windies. Sheldon Cottrell dismissed both openers for a duck in the very first over, but alongside Ross Taylor’s support, he smashed home another brilliant hundred. The New Zealand skipper now has scored more than 300 runs without getting dismissed since the game against Afghanistan. Ross Taylor too scored an important fifty for the Kiwis.
Here are the major cricketing trends on social media from Saturday.
