CSK are bigger chokers than KKR: Gautam Gambhir

Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings locked horns with each other for the finals of the IPL 2021. The former did not have a splendid run in the first half of the season but bounced back stronger to make it to the finals. CSK, on the other hand, had an impressive run in the Indian leg and they continued their form in the second half as well to become the first team to qualify for the playoffs and then also reached the finals by defeating DC.

The former India cricketer and commentator Gautam Gambhir has opened up on both teams. According to him, CSK is a ‘bigger choker’ considering that they have made it to eight finals before and won only three. He highlighted this record and asserted that KKR reached two finals and has won both.

“If you are so data-based, if you want to talk about data and numbers, this is exactly what I am going to tell my squad as well. They [CSK] are bigger chokers than we [KKR] are!” But you’ve got to look at their track record as well. They have played what, eight finals? They have only won three.

Probably if I would have been in the KKR dugout, I would have said, ‘Their win percentage is nothing compared to what we have achieved.’ We have played two finals and we have won both. Those guys have crumbled under pressure much more than we have,” Gautam said during a chat with ESPNcricinfo.

If Kolkata wins this final, they will have a 100% record of winning the finals. Gambhir added that though CSK is an experienced side, KKR wouldn’t be concerned about it. He said that the KKR players will be all raring to make an impact and express themselves.

“Yes, it is important to have played those big games but I don’t think at the moment, any of the KKR players will be thinking on those lines. They will be just going out there and probably itching to be on the field and express themselves as much as they can. They will just go out there and absorb the occasion and probably even give more than 100%.”
