Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have denied the claims of Suresh Raina not being retained for the next season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Earlier in the day, the news of the franchise releasing the left-hander spread like wild-fire which raised a lot of eyebrows. The retention policy is yet to be finalised ahead of the auction next year and is expected to be announced by the next week. However, CSK has also cleared that they are very much interested in retaining Raina among others.

The former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is almost certain to continue playing for Chennai if the Governing Council of IPL allows the team to retain a few players. Few franchises are in favour of an open auction without retaining any player of the team. The team boasted the players like R Ashwin, Dwayne Bravo, Faf Du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja apart from Dhoni and Raina before being suspended for two years in 2015. This year they would be returning to the lucrative league along with Rajasthan Royals.

Don’t believe in rumours

The official Twitter handle of Chennai Super Kings took to social media and urged the fans not to believe in any rumours. They also hinted that they are looking to retain maximum possible players and want to bring back pride together. The message for the fans read, “Lots of rumours online about not retaining #ChinnaThala. Don’t Believe! We want to bring the pride back together. A roaring #SummerIsComing #WhistlePodu.”

Chennai Super Kings, before the suspension, was the only side to enter the knockouts in every season of IPL. They have also won the coveted title twice under the inspired leadership of Dhoni. Raina too has played a vital role every year by scoring more than 400 runs in almost all seasons. Though it would be a tough decision for them if the player retention number is kept limited to only three players which was suggested earlier by Governing Council.
