Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have four wins in 13 league matches and are in the ninth position in the points table. They are already out of the race for the IPL 2022 playoffs and are currently battling it out in their last league fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Ahead of this fixture, former Indian cricketers Wasim Jaffer and Deep Dasgupta opened up on the form of CSK and MS Dhoni.

Jaffer thinks the top-order has held the key for CSK in this season as they do not possess a strong batting line-up. In this regard, he added that if the likes of Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ambati Rayudu do not contribute enough, the team is not able to post a strong score on the board. Jaffer also said that this fixture will certainly be important for choosing their key players for the next season.

“If their top-order does not click, we all know that CSK does not have a strong batting line-up. They all can bat but the contribution of the top-order matters the most. When the players like Conway, Gaikwad, and Rayudu bat the bulk of the overs, then they look like a different batting outfit. But, if they lose two wickets in powerplay overs, then it’s a hard task. Going forward, they will have to choose players for the next season,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

MS Dhoni has displayed amazing fitness in IPL 2022: Deep Dasgupta

Dasgupta stated a few reasons for MS Dhoni still continuing to play for CSK in the next season. He thinks Dhoni has already stated that he wants to play his last IPL match in Chennai, and will look to extend his IPL career. The former batter added that Dhoni has made a comeback as a leader this season and displayed terrific fitness during his wicketkeeping and batting.

“Firstly, he will play his last match in Chennai. Second, if he wouldn’t have opted to play for another season, then he would have given the captaincy to another player. Another reason is his amazing fitness, which he has shown during his wicketkeeping and batting. I have a feeling, he has got another season left in him,” said Dasgupta.
