The Chennai Super Kings will be locking horns with the Gujarat Titans in Match 62 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 15.

Chennai’s title reign has ended after their five-wicket defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Mumbai Indians where they suffered an awkward batting collapse and were bundled out for 97 where only skipper MS Dhoni stood tall with an unbeaten 36 from 33 deliveries. With their tournament done and dusted, CSK would now be hoping to salvage pride by winning their remaining two fixtures.

The Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, have been the most consistent team in the tournament, and in fact, they became the first team to successfully qualify for the playoffs with an emphatic 62-run win over the other new entrants Lucknow Super Giants where GT bowlers made merry on a slow wicket to rattle the tamed opposition for a paltry 82.

The Titans would also be hoping to do the double over the Yellow Army, having got the better of them by three wickets in the reverse fixture.

Pitch and conditions

The Wankhede pitch is a balanced one where the pacers will get some purchase from the wicket in the initial phase. Since it is an afternoon game, the idea might be to bat first and put up a competitive total on the board.

Playing combinations for CSK vs GT

Chennai Super Kings

Despite having a forgettable day on the field against the Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings will be hoping to field an unchanged XI. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the competition due to a rib injury. As a, they are not left with too many options in their squad as of now.

Predicted XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Shivam Dube, Dwayne Bravo, Simrjeet Singh, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary

Gujarat Titans

Having already sealed a playoff spot, the Gujarat Titans might not make any changes in their playing XI. Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see if they test their bench strength in the next couple of inconsequential clashes. It remains to be seen whether wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz will be included in place of an underfire Matthew Wade.

Predicted XI: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewtia, Rashid Khan, Sai Kishore, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami
