The very first over of the Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians clash sparked controversy after Devon Conway was unable to review the umpire’s decision. Winning the toss, Rohit Sharma put Chennai to bat first. Opening the innings, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Conway walked into the field with the aim to put a big total.

After taking a single off the first ball of the game, Daniel Sams managed to dismiss Conway lbw on the second ball. While the ball clearly looked like it was sliding down leg, Conway could not review the decision as there was no DRS available due to a power cut at the Wankhede Stadium.

Conway has been in great form ever since he returned to the side after his marriage. Having scored three back-to-back half-centuries, another power-packed performance was expected from him against the arch-rivals Mumbai Indians. But unfortunately, that could not happen.

CSK and MI have been ruling the IPL for the past five years, passing the trophy to each other. But this time, the tables have turned and fate hasn’t supported either. Their start to the campaign was miserable as they kept losing matches one after the other.

CSK lose their playoffs berth if they lose this game

Speaking of the game, CSK needs to win the game to keep their playoff hopes alive. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have been knocked out but if they manage to win this one, they can put curtains on CSK’s campaign, who are on the brink of elimination.

Meanwhile, the absence of DRS made it a nightmare for CSK as they lost two players who could not review the decision. After Sams dismissed Conway, he went on to pick Moeen Ali in the same over as Hrithik Shokeen caught him at mid-wicket. Soon, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Robin Uthappa lbw for only a single. The CSK batter wanted to review the decision, but just like Conway, he was left with no choice but to walk back.
