Barbados Women will be locking horns with Pakistan Women in the second match of the Women’s Cricket Competition of the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday, July 29. Barbados will be representing the West Indies in this competition having succeeded in booking their tickets to the UK for this event courtesy of being the most dominant T20 side in the Caribbean as they were the T20 Blaze defending champions.

However, Barbados have a formidable opponent in the form of Pakistan and they would need to work really hard if they are to register their first points to the tally in the CWG 2022.

The Bismah Maroof-led side might have found success over sides like Ireland and Sri Lanka in the last few months, but they were exposed by the reigning WT20 champions Australia during the tri-series in Ireland. Even though most of their encounters were washed out due to rain and one of them abandoned without a ball being bowled, Pakistan suffered an awkward batting collapse in two of those clashes that saw them placed in a completely hopeless situation at 56/6 on one occasion and 94/8 on the other.

Among the top teams like Australia, India, England, New Zealand, and South Africa, Pakistan and Barbados might not be given a chance on paper, but they would be definitely looking to make a statement on the field by showcasing impressive performances in the upcoming competition. Meanwhile, since a full-fledged West Indies team who had lifted the Women’s T20 World Cup back in 2016 are not showing up, it would be interesting to see how good Barbados really are in this eight-team T20 cricket tournament.

The Edgbaston wicket is usually good for batting and the batters can make merry once they are well-set in the middle. Even the bowlers would get to generate some swing on this track.
