Indian Women’s team will lock horns with Pakistan Women in a titanic clash on Sunday, 31st July, as the arch-rivals will battle to remain in the competition in Edgbaston.

India squared off against favourites Australia in the opening fixture of the ongoing Commonwealth Games Women’s T20 tournament and were defeated narrowly in a thrilling run chase. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur contemplated the loss after being in a commanding position at the three-quarter stage of the game. Kaur would now love to open their account in the historic competition against eternal rivals Pakistan.

In contrast to India, Pakistan suffered a deflating loss in their first match against Barbados after failing to chase a mediocre total. Bismah Maroof’s side will hope for a better outing for her batters against a strong Indian outfit. Although India looks the dominant side heading into the fixture, form goes out of the window in an India-Pakistan clash.

Head to Head record in Women’s T20Is:

The subcontinent sides have clashed in T20Is on 11 occasions, with the Women in Blue battering the neighbors in nine meetings. India are currently on a winning streak of four games against their nemesis, with their last victory coming in 2018 in the shortest format of the game.

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is the leading scorer among the active players between the two sides as she has amassed 132 runs for the team in ten matches, averaging 33 against Pakistan. Veteran Pakistani off-spinner Nida Dar is the leading wickets taker among current players, with eight scalps to her name in nine matches against the fierce neighbors.

Last meeting:

The two sides last met in a T20I match in the group stages of the 2018 T20 World cup. The Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and put the opposition into bat at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The Women in Green finished with 133/7 in their 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from the experienced pair of Bismah Mahroof and Nida Dar.

But the Indian team neutralized their opponents with relative ease as they strolled past Pakistan’s total with seven wickets in the bag and an over to spare. India’s mercurial opener Mithali Raj sizzled with a typically fluent half-century to guide India to the victory of their arch-rivals.
