The 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League is set to be a historic affair with the tournament set to take place in Pakistan in its entirety. The fifth edition of the franchise-based league will kickstart from February 20 with defending champions Quetta Gladiators taking on two-time champions Islamabad United.

Islamabad United- just like the other franchises- have a plethora of International star power including the likes of Colin Ingram, Dawid Malan, Philip Salt, Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi, and the South African fast bowling legend Dale Steyn. Steyn, on Sunday, took to his Twitter account to shrug off all the speculations regarding his availability when he announced that he will indeed be taking part in the fledgeling league this season.

“Hello everybody in Pakistan. Just a quick message to say that I am super excited to come over and join Islamabad United,” Steyn in a video that he tweeted on Sunday.

The champion fast bowler then proceeded to give the fans the details of the portals where they can book their tickets to the matches. He added “Come and watch us play, really looking forward to it and I’ll see you guys at the games. Cheers!”

Dale Steyn recently made his T20I comeback for South Africa

Steyn’s announcement puts an end to all the speculations that have surfaced in the past few days that the champion fast bowler might miss out on the entire season of the Pakistan Super League due to International commitments. Steyn made his comeback to the South African Twenty20 International team in the ongoing three-match series against England.

Post the T20I series against England,  South Africa will take on Australia in the limited-overs fixtures starting from February 21 which will be preceded by a One-day International series in India in mid-March- all of which will overlap with the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League.

Steyn is unlikely to be part of the One-day squad against Australia and India which means he’ll be available for the competition once the T20I series against the Aussies comes to a conclusion.

Steyn’s participation comes as a huge boost for the PCB who are hoping that the availability of the foreign players will steadfast the process of bringing cricket back to Pakistan.
