After a string of losses, the Royal Challengers Bangalore achieved a sensational victory against the Mumbai Indians. The Bangalore-based franchise has been missing their most versatile batter AB de Villiers for a couple of games due to viral fever. He’s all set to return for tomorrow’s encounter against Chennai Super Kings.

RCB can’t lose a single game at this stage in the tournament thus, the CSK challenge is a must win for them. The head coach of the team Daniel Vettori was pleased with the effort of his bowling unit. He specifically praised Colin de Grandhomme who rose to the occasion and asserted the key strategies with regards to the Pune pitch.

We got our bowling combination right

Vettori was extremely happy with the way his team bowled against Mumbai Indians. They managed to defend a total of 167 at their home ground which is an achievement. The trio of Tim Southee, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav, all picked a couple of wickets alongside being economical.

“We are really satisfied with the way we bowled in the last game. We got our combination right. Tim Southee was exceptional, Mohammed Siraj is improving, Umesh Yadav and Chahal have done well. We have been constant with that group,” the New Zealander said on the eve of the CSK encounter.

De Grandhomme’s last over hits made the difference

Vettori asserted that it was Colin de Grandhomme’s last over exploits that helped RCB reach a total they could defend. He hit three sixes off the last four balls which included a no ball and the total went from 146/7 to 167/7 in a space of three balls. In the end, the hosts won by a 14-run margin.

“Colin did a great job in the last game. His runs in the last over was the difference between us winning or losing. Finishing plays a part if your top-order batsmen do not do well,” he added.

Ruing the use of flat wickets, the former left-arm spinner who himself featured in the IPL stated that it gives the batsmen an edge. The bowlers, on the other hand, have a tough task as they’re at the receiving end.

“Any time a batting group comes to a good wicket, they are excited. It’s not easy for the bowlers. As for Pune, We need to look at the conditions, the wind, it’s a day time game. We need to get acclimatised. The execution with the ball will be the defining factor in the game here,” the RCB coach concluded.
