The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently confirmed the news about a T20 exhibition match for the women cricketers in Mumbai. The Indian cricket board announced that the match will be played on the lines of the IPL and will be scheduled between the playoffs of the IPL 2018. The match is set to be telecast live. On hearing the announcement, English cricketer Danielle Wyatt cannot keep her calm.

Danielle Wyatt, who is one of the best all-rounders of the Women’s cricket in the current era, has two T20I hundreds to her name. She took to her micro blogging site Twitter handle to express her excitement about the game. She also retweeted the news about the same that was shared by the official Twitter handle of the ICC.

“Some of women’s cricket’s biggest stars will take part in a Women’s T20 Challenge before next week’s first IPL Qualifier, with @mandhana_smriti and @ImHarmanpreet to lead the two sides,” the ICC had tweeted.

The match is set to be a revolutionary one in the Indian cricket for sure. In the recent times, the BCCI has taken serious efforts to popularize the women’s game in the country. And this is a baby step towards the same. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur have been named as the captains of the two teams. Also, the teams will have four overseas players each, just like the IPL.

“We are excited to announce the first-of-its-kind exhibition match involving our women cricketers. BCCI has been pulling out all stops to promote and nurture women’s cricket and this is a small yet significant step towards a prospective league involving women’s stars in the future,” BCCI administrator Diana Edulji had quoted.

Danielle Wyatt did not give away any information about which team she will be playing in. She is expected to be joined by other overseas players – Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Suzie Bates, Alyssa Healy, Megan Schutt, and Daniel Hazell.

Here is how Danielle Wyatt expressed her excitement:

“Can’t wait for this! Back to Mumbai,” Danielle Wyatt wrote in her tweet.
