Danushka Gunathilika not to be a part of the Sri Lankan squad for the remaining matches

Sri Lanka’s left-handed batsman Danushka Gunathilika will not be available for the remaining two games of the ODI series against Pakistan. The ban on the cricketer has been cut down to three games. After the ExCo meeting on Monday, SLC decided to reduce the ban on the cricketer. It was also reported that he would join the Lankan camp for the remaining games of the series.

Pakistan have already sealed the fate of the 5-match ODI series after winning the third ODI yesterday (October 18) by seven wickets. The visitors were impressive during the Test series but could not continue the same form in limited overs cricket.

Sri Lanka’s batting woes

Sri Lanka batting has lost its sharpness that forced the selectors to add young batting sensation Sadeera Samarwikrama in the middle of the series. He has joined the Sri Lanka team in UAE and is most likely to make his ODI debut in the fourth match of the series to be played tomorrow.

Samarwikrama failed to find a place in the squad initially but he has now been named in the team for the remainder of the series- the two dead rubbers.

“He has already joined the squad and is all set to make his ODI debut tomorrow, as Sri Lanka batting in disarray right now” a team official told Cricket Age from UAE.

The 22-year-old right-hander has been tagged as the next big thing in Sri Lanka cricket for sometime now. He has impressed one and all in domestic cricket and later made his Test debut in the second match against Pakistan, which was the historic day/night Test match, the first for the Sri Lankan team.

The visitors will hope for a change in fortune in the upcoming matches. Under Upul Tharanga’s captaincy, the Lankans had earlier lost the 5-match ODI series against India at home.
