The stars of West Indies cricket are set to lead their respective teams in the fundraiser for hurricane victims in the Caribbean. A Caribbean Select XI will take on a Trinidad side in Port of Spain on October 14 in the charity match. The Trinidad side will be captained by Kieron Pollard, while St Lucia’s Darren Sammy will lead the Caribbean Select XI in the match themed ‘Rebuilding the Caribbean one over at a time’. The hurricanes had destroyed the islands and a lot of people lost their lives in that period.

The tickets for the game would cost 100$ and containers will be placed around the ground to collect canned items and clothing. Sammy is one of the most loved cricketers around the world and it is no surprise that he is involved in such a social cause. Pollard too is the leading cricketer in the country which would attract many people to watch the match which will help collect as much money as possible for the unfortunate victims.

Hurricane destroys the Caribbean islands

The Caribbean islands were demolished by two Category 5 major hurricanes, Irma and Maria. The former was recorded as the most powerful in the Atlantic since 2005 – among other hurricanes through August and September. The level of devastation caused by these hurricanes was very high as the communication is some regions notably, in Dominica, Barbuda and St Martin, with some communities is still difficult. Also the Windies off-spinner Shane Shillingford was recently found who was missing for some time following the hurricanes. He is understood to be in good health.

The move of arranging the fundraiser game sustains efforts that took place during the ODI series between West Indies and England. Members of West Indies cricket team like Joel Garner were seen taking collection buckets around the crowd during the matches. According to ESPN Cricinfo, it has also been understood that all the member of the squad have contributed to the cause in their way.
