Dav Whatmore steps down as head coach of Nepal men's cricket team

The former Australian cricketer Dav Whatmore announced on Friday, August 27 that he would step down as the head coach of the men’s cricket team of Nepal. In a letter to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Whatmore asserted that he wishes to resign from the post of the head coach of the team after the world cup qualifier on 19th September which is staged to be held in Oman.
Whatmore was given the mantle of being the head coach of the Nepal team in December 2020. He had previously guided Sri Lanka to triumph in the 50-over World Cup in 1996. Whatmore has a good experience of coaching under his sleeves as he has also coached Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe in the past. He thus stated that it was a tough decision for him to resign from the post.
“The letter is to confirm you that I want to resign from the head coach position of Nepal Cricket Team immediately after the conclusion of the world cup qualifier on 19th September to be held in Oman. I also wish to confirm you that this is a very tough decision I have to make after making the deepest of my thoughts on the same,” the letter read as reported by Times Now.

Whatmore further added that it was his personal decision to end his term as the head coach of the side. The former Australia cricketer opened up that amidst the challenging times of the ongoing pandemic, it has been difficult for him to stay away from his family for long. He stated that the Cricket Association of Nepal and its players all have been extremely cooperative during his term.
“Due to the ongoing pandemic around the world, it is very difficult for me to stay away from my family for such a long time. I wish to confirm you that this is entirely my personal decision and I truly enjoyed working with CAN & its players who are extremely cooperative to me throughout the entire tenure,” he added.
