Cricket Australia decided to take a tough step and banned David Warner and Steven Smith for 12 months for being part of the ball tampering conspiracy while Bancroft was banned for nine months. David Warner previously decided to represent City Cyclones in the Northern Territory Strike League to hone his skills in competitive cricket.

Cameron Bancroft is representing Desert Blaze in this tournament for some time now but Warner is yet to make his debut for his team. The left-handed batsman will play his first match for City Cyclones on Sunday when his team faces Cameron Bancroft’s Desert Blaze.  It will definitely be interesting to see the two Australian openers playing against each other.

David Warner in Global T20

Warner recently returned from his stint in Canada’s Global T20 league where he captained Winnipeg Hawks. He was appointed as the captain of the franchise when Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was forced to pull out of the league due to personal reasons.

He participated in the tournament along with many stars including the banned Australian captain Steve Smith. It was his first taste of competitive cricket since being handed the ban by Cricket Australia. He looked rusty in the tournament as he struggled for runs initially.

The 31-year-old southpaw was not able to find form at the start of the event, but found his form at the latter stages. He managed to score a half-century in the second last match of the Global T20 league against Edmonton Royals.

On the other hand, Cameron Bancroft has looked in good form in the Northern Territory Strike league. He has played six T20 matches in the league, managing to score two half-centuries in the process. He would be looking to continue this good form when he comes up against his former opening partner’s team.
