David Warner and Kumars win it for Sunrisers Hyderabad: Some fine piece of death bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Praveen Kumar helped Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by 16 runs through Duckworth-Lewis method at Vishakapatinam.
Chasing a revised target of 118 to win from 12 overs, Kolkata lost their skipper Gautam Gambhir for an 8 ball 4 to Praveen Kumar after Robin Uthappa got his side off to a great start by scoring 35 in the first 3 overs. A couple of overs later Uthappa followed Gambhir back to the Pavilion as Aussie All Rounder Moises Henriques had him caught by Praveen Kumar at fine-leg.
Andre Russell and Manish Pandey threatened to take the game away from Sunrisers with some big shots before Ravi Bopara sent back Andre Russell caught by Dale Steyn at long-on for 19. Yusuf Pathan too didn’t do much damage as Bhuvneshwar dismissed him caught by Karn Sharma.
With 37 required from 3 overs and the match looked evenly poised, both Bhuvneshwar and Praveen exhibited a great display of death bowling as they managed to have the visitors on the mat and won the game by 16 runs.
Earlier put into bat, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan got Sunrisers off to a flying start as they put on 130 for the first wicket in 14 overs. Warner scored a 55 ball 91 that included 9 fours and a six and looked set for a ton before Morne Morkel had him caught behind. Soon after Dhawan reached his fifty and not out to Andre Russell for 54.
Kolkata bowlers begged Sunrisers back in the last few overs and restricted them for 177-4 in 20 overs. Warner was named the Man of the Match for his match winning knock.
Brief scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 176 for 4 (David Warner 91, Shikhar Dhawan 54, Morne Morkel 2-31) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 101 for 4 in 12 overs (Robin Uthappa 34) by 16 runs (D/L method).
