After getting slapped with a one-year ban for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, David Warner and Steve Smith have remained very silent and away from any social interaction. The dynamic Australian duo as they stated in their respective press conference, was shattered with what they’ve done and will need some time to recuperate.

In recent days, reports have suggested that English County side Surrey are keen to sign these both players. This happened after Surrey’s head-coach Michael Di Venuto hinted at a possible county stint for the duo, given the English Cricket Board permits them. Yet, as per reports in Sportstar, the chances of Warner and Smith heading to England for a County stint is very grim as it stands.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has already signed up for Surrey. His dismal performance in England persuaded him to spend some time in the English conditions so that he can do well in the 5-match Test series in July and August this year. Surrey have also signed Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who is currently suffering an ankle injury. To replace him for the first two months, they signed Dean Elgar as well.

Gareth Batty to lead Surrey this season

Surrey already have a star-studded lineup and there’s no particular room for the likes of Warner and Smith in the side. Di Venuto had earlier said, “We’d be mad not to look at some of the world’s best players potentially playing.” However, the 44-year-old’s comments could be attributed to his ‘familiarity with the duo and not the club’s willingness to sign.

Senior cricketer Gareth Batty will be leading Surrey for the upcoming County season. Batty has plenty of resources to choose from and Surrey should certainly do well this season. Apart from Kohli and Dean Elgar, they also have Aaron Finch in their ranks as well, another reason which supports the argument that they might not be interested to sign two more Australian International players.
