Dawid Malan joins Peshawar Zalmi as replacement for Andre Fletcher

Hard-hitting West Indies batsman Andre Fletcher has been ruled out of the second edition of the PSL. The Caribbean batsman failed to get an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). As a result of the same, he had to pull out of the T20 league. As per a recent Twitter update by the official social media handle of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Peshawar Zalmi have been quick in roping in a replacement for Andre Fletcher.

They have drafted in English opener Dawid Malan as the replacement. Incidentally, Malan had earlier been part of the Peshawar Zalmi in the previous edition of the tournament too. Talking about Malan, he is a veteran in English domestic cricket. The 29-year old left-handed opener has been a key member of the Middlesex side for quite some time now.

He was most recently seen plying his trade in the Bangladesh Premier League in late 2016. Dawid Malan featured for the Barisal Bulls in the T20 league and was one of the key members of the side. His most notable performances came against the Chittagong Vikings when he smashed an unbeaten 78.

Later, he hit another gutsy 56 against the Rajshahi Kings towards the end of the league stages. He finished off his stint at the BPL with a score of 30 against the Rangpur Riders. Malan has played 127 T20s and amassed 3284 runs with two hundreds to his name. he averages close to 35 with the bat. He is a part-time bowler as well.

He has been on the fringes of the international call up for England for quite some time now. He was in the reckoning for his international debut last year after impressive performances for the England Lions.

In an update, the official Twitter handle of the PSL wrote, “UPDATE: Due to not receiving his NOC Andre Fletcher has been replaced by English opener @dmalan29 who rejoins his old squad. @PeshawarZalmi.”
