The 16th match of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League will witness a clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday (October 3).

Both the teams had a similar start to their campaign with two wins in the first three games. While DC is entering the contest after an embarrassing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), KKR is coming after clinching a comfortable victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The Delhi-based franchise had a rollicking start of its campaign for 2020 edition of T20 extravaganza as it first defeated Kings XI Punjab in a nail-biting Super Over and then went on to register a brilliant victory against three-time champion Chennai Super Kings.

However, the winning streak of the team soon ended as it couldn’t chase a total of 162 posted on the board by SRH in the 20-overs game. The batting line-up of the Capitals looked ordinary and vulnerable as they succumbed to pressure and perished while trying to go for glory a little too early.

Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, didn’t have a good start to their IPL campaign. The team looked ordinary in their first game against Mumbai Indians and as a result, had to face defeat by 49 runs. However, KKR learnt from their mistakes and implemented their strategies on the ground perfectly to register two consecutive victories against Sunrisers and Rajasthan Royals. In their last outing, the team seemed to tick all the three boxes of batting, bowling and fielding.

Pitch and conditions

Just like the previous matches, the Sharjah pitch is expected to favour the batsman. The user can witness a high-scoring match as the last game played there was a run-feast as both sides scored in excess of 200.

Pitch will be more suitable for pacers as spinners can have a tough time because of the dew and short boundaries. The team winning the toss might bowl first due to the dew factor under the lights. Also, the pitch becomes more batting-friendly as the match progresses.

Delhi has a decent top-order owing to the presence of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer. Their middle-order is quite aggressive and can shred the opposition in pieces but looks out of the touch at the moment. However, there can be some power-hitting by Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis in Sharjah owing to its flat pitch and short boundary.

The bowling department looks fine and has done its job quite well in the tournament so far. Though no major change is predicted, the team management can rope in Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of Amit Mishra if the former has recovered from his injury and it will provide good depth to their bowling.

The franchise is blessed with some great Indian talent like Shubman Gill who has shown class in his batting as an opener. Also, the presence of hard-hitters like Sunil Narine, Nitish Raina and Andre Russell alongside Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan makes the team look more strong. However, the team needs to work on the order of the players in the batting-order to do wonders in the game.

KKR appears to be having one of the most complete batting lineups in the competition with its young and dynamic pacers Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti doing the job alongside the Australian veteran Pat Cummins. The spin department of Narine, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy has also looked good so far. Thus, the team might play with the same playing XI.
