The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), which has been reeling with negative issues in the recent past, finally had something to rejoice after the Ferozeshah Kotla bagged the award for the ‘best ground and pitch’ in IPL-9.
The pitch & ground team head by Ankit Datta will be rewarded with Rs 1 lakh while rest of the award money will be distributed among the ground and technical staff.
“The DDCA is distributing the entire prize money amongst employees with a big chunk of it going to the pitch and ground team headed by Ankit Datta,” Siddharth Verma, DDCA’s director of cricket operations, said.
From finding difficulties to obtain clearances to hold matches to the risk of getting battling out the municipal corporation in the court, the last season was full of controversies for the DDCA.

However, the DDCA has managed to dodge and overcome these issues. Recently, the DDCA also revealed its plans to build a new stadium between Dwarka and Najafgarh. They are looking forward to ensuring better facilities to the spectators, better connectivity with the airport and does not cause traffic issues when high profile international matches are on.
The board itself has a budget of close to 150 crores for the stadium. They are also planning to request its share of subsidies from the Indian cricket board (BCCI) for the past three years, amounting to nearly Rs 60 crore to further fund the project. The estimated cost of the stadium will be around 250 crores.
