South Africa’s Dean Elgan suffered a finger dislocation on day three of the first Test against Australia on Thursday. The injury happened in his attempt to take a catch that dismissed Mitchell Starc, but Dean Elgar was seen leaving the field in pain immediately after the catch, and seeing the team physio.
However, that does not seem a big worry for the Proteas, who are expecting him to open the batting in the second Test despite the finger dislocation. The finger in question is the pinky finger on his right hand, the reports say that the discomfort is not too bad to hamper his batting. He will bat in the second innings of the ongoing Test.
A gritty knock against India which came under pain
Elgar is seen as a tough guy by his teammates, as was evident the last time too when he scored a gritty knock despite suffering an injury in his hand. In his last Test against India, he scored an unbeaten 86 despite suffering from blows not just in his hands but also the body.
“Dean is a tough cookie,” South Africa‘s assistant coach Malibongwe Maketa was quoted as saying by cricbuzz. “He was really keen to go back out there and to bat. There’s no concern about him. It was dislocated. It’s fine now.” “There are still two days to go, and I think the thing they would like the least is to rock up tomorrow and have to bowl, so I’m pretty confident that we will keep batting,” he said.
How the first Test against Aussies panned out?
On day three of the first Test, Australia almost batted the Proteas out of the contest with a massive lead of 402 runs to end the day with. Poor light got its way into the game, which is why it had to be stopped seven overs before its scheduled finish. Nathan Lyon’s spin and Mitchell Starc’s reverse swing had the South African batsmen troubled throughout.
