Team England registered an emphatic win by 239 runs in the third Test against South Africa. The visitors could never really get into the game and were playing the catching game right from the day one of the Test. However, a few players from the Proteas camp showed great resilience and character in brief spells during the game. One such name was Dean Elgar.

Elgar had failed to score in the first innings and was sent packing on just 8. However, he did cover up for the low show in the next innings. He played a fighting knock of 136 runs to keep the hopes of the South African fans alive. Till the time he was at the crease, the fans hoped that the Proteas camp might miraculously save the game and settle for a draw.

However, the departure of Elgar after a defiant knock ended the hopes of many South African fans. Chasing a target in the vicinity of 500 was never on. However, a draw was something that the visitors expected. But it was not to be as they bundled out for 252 runs and thereby lost by 239 runs.

Dean Elgar, however, managed to win a lot of hearts for his gutsy show though. Elgar knock of 136 came in 228 balls with 20 fours to his name. He was dismissed by Moeen Ali in the 76th over of the innings and was the 8th South African wicket to perish. Ali bagged another two wickets in successive deliveries to complete his maiden Test hat-trick. Meanwhile, Dean Elgar was seen in some trouble whilst he was at the crease.

Bating with battered fingers

Apparently, he had bruised fingers but continued to bat along despite the pain. As per the reports in ESPNcricinfo, Elgar was asked if he would go for the x-ray scans for his battered fingers, Elgar conceded with a negative response. He noted that it would be a ‘waste of money’. Also, he added that he is keen on participating in the final Test of the series.
