India and Bangladesh played a humdinger of a final in the Asia Cup as it went down to the wire until the last ball. It was the Men in Blue eventually who held their nerves when needed and won the title for the seventh time. The crowd got their monies worth and the commentators involved in the coverage of the tournament also loved it. One of them was the former Australian cricketer Dean Jones who lauded both the finalists for putting up a stunning show in the title clash.

Jones was the part of the commentary panel of Star Sports who was the official broadcaster of the Asia Cup this year which was played between six teams. A new format came to the fore and it worked sensationally in the end as most of the matches went close and it was only fitting that the best team won the competition eventually. However, Bangladesh also won the heart of everyone after the way they played and made a meal out of the under-par total of 22 runs which they had put while batting first.

Deano going back home

Dean Jones was thrilled to bits after the final and on his way back home, congratulated Team India for being clinical right through the tournament. Though they were stretched in their last couple of game including the final, the Men in Blue played like champions and thoroughly deserved the victory. He also pointed out that Mashrafe Mortaza-led Bangladesh were gutsy on the day but just couldn’t cross the line yet again.

“Off home to Australia. Congrats to @BCCI Indian Team on a great Tournament. Well done to @BCBtigers on a gutsy performance throughout the Asia Cup. Many thanks to our hard working Team at @StarSportsIndia in Dubai and Mumbai,” he tweeted while leaving the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where all the action unfurled over the last few days.

Dean Jones has been appointed the head coach of Pakhtoons for the upcoming season of the T10 league and will be soon gearing up for the tournament.
