In the modern day game, it is not easy for players to maintain their place in all formats of the game. Adapting to different conditions in a short span of time in a challenging task. This has resulted in several players becoming specialists meaning that they represent their country in one particular format only. While T20 format requires power hitting or innovative shots, the Test format demands patience and toughness.

Aaron Finch has been one of the standout players for Australia in the white-ball formats over the past few years. He has the reputation of smashing balls at his will from the word go. He also has the highest individual score for an Australian(172) in the shortest format of the game. While Finch has a great record in white ball cricket, he is yet to make his debut in Test cricket.

Finch makes his way into the Test cricket

He has consistently been overlooked for the longest and has been termed as a white-ball player. However, Finch has got his big break as he has been selected for the Test series against Pakistan to be held in the UAE. Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones took to Twitter and expressed his excitement over Finch’s inclusion in the series.

He tweeted: ”No doubt @AaronFinch5 will get his Test debut against Pakistan. I am just so thrilled for him. He has literally worked his bum off to change people’s minds that he isn’t just a T20 player.. go get em Grinch.”

The ball-tampering scandal saw Steve Smith and David Warner being banned from cricket for a period of one year. This has presented Aaron Finch with a golden opportunity to cement his place in the longest format of the game too. He needs to do well against Pakistan to repay the faith that the selectors have shown in him. The team will be captained by wicketkeeper Tim Paine and the series will begin on October 7.
