Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones is very happy to learn that the World XI team and Sri Lankan side will tour Pakistan this year and has expressed his willingness to visit the country as a commentator for the series. Jones already has a relationship with Pakistan as he is the coach of Islamabad United, one of the PSL teams.

The final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 2 was hosted in Lahore successfully earlier this year which brought joy for the fans. They witnessed several international stars in their country for the first time since 2009. The talks of reviving International cricket in Pakistan strengthened, even more, when they won Champions Trophy beating India in the final.

“I felt so happy after hearing the news of Sri Lankan team’s tour to Pakistan. I am ready to visit Lahore again as a commentator if Sri Lanka comes to play T20 [matches there]. It will be a great moment,” he told DawnNews.

Jones was of the opinion that the successful hosting of World XI and Sri Lanka series could lead to the revival of International cricket in Pakistan.

“These two team tours are very important for Pakistan cricket. I am hopeful that if all goes well, it will open the door for the revival of international cricket in Pakistan and it will be a great boost for Pakistan cricket after the Champions Trophy triumph.” he concluded.

Sri Lanka Cricket finalised tour to Pakistan

Earlier this week, Sri Lankan board approved a tour to Pakistan after a security assessment. Interestingly, Sri Lanka was the last Test playing nation to tour Pakistan apart from Zimbabwe in 2009. The tour was marred by a deadly militant attack on the team post which no International team visited the country.

Sri Lankan cricket chief Thilanga Sumathipala said that after a security assessment, the team had been cleared to play three Twenty20 internationals, including “at least one” in Lahore where the team was attacked by the militants.
