It has been 27 years since legendary Indian batsmen Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut. Back in 1989, on November 15, Sachin made his Test debut against Pakistan at Karachi. He was just 16 at that time and since then he has created many cricket records. His records speak volumes about his talent and services for Team India.
On this day, when Sachin completed 27 years of celebrating ‘November 15’, the cricket world wished him on the occasion. Not just the cricketers, even the television and movie celebrities congratulated Sachin on the day. Sachin Tendulkar shouldered the responsibility of being the backbone of Indian batting for over 2 decades. Wishes came in flowing two of the current mainstays of Indian batting line up. Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli were quick to tweet on this special day for their role model.
Sachin’s close friend and former teammate Harbhajan Singh was not far behind either. Waqar Younis, the pace bowling sensation of his era, also wished Sachin on Twitter. Waqar was at his peak best and had made a grand entry to cricket when Sachin had made his debut in that Test series. Sachin’s ODI debut came a month later on December 18, 1989 at Gujranwala in Pakistan. Sachin went on to play 463 ODIs since then and amassed 18426 runs at an average of 44.83. He hit 49 ODI centuries which remains to be an unbroken record.
In all, he has a tally of 100 international tons – a record that is most likely to remain untouched for quite a long while. Sachin Tendulkar made 200 Test appearances and is the most capped player in the history of the Test cricket. He served the national side for 24 years. His last Tests appearance was against West Indies in Mumbai in 2013. He retired with 15921 Test runs under his name. Such a great legend of the game, Sachin has been a reason why many Indians started following the game of cricket in India.
Here are the tweets from around the world wishing Sachin on his debut day:
