Popular Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone, whose film on an acid-attack victim is set to hit the theatres next month, recently emphasised on the need to put equal stress on physical and mental strength. The 33-year-old, who recently became emotional while speaking on her new film ‘Chhapaak’ named her all-time favourite cricketer as well.

Deepika will also be seen in the film ‘83’ which is based on India’s historic cricket World Cup win under Kapil Dev. She will be portraying the role of Romi Dev, the wife of Kapil, whose role will be played by her real-life husband Ranveer Singh. The actor said she watches cricket matches with Ranveer, who she revealed to be a big football fan as well.

“Ranveer and I watch matches together, he is a very big football fan which everyone knows – but he is also a big cricket fan. We don’t watch every single match, but yes, when there are important games, we either make it a point to sit with each other or with family and friends and make it an event, like the whole nation does,” she said while speaking to Star Sports.

For Deepika Padukone, an idol is also about the conduct outside

Deepika Padukone then named her all-time favourite cricketer and it is former India captain Rahul Dravid. She expressed her admiration for the gentleman cricketer saying a lot of her idols are not because of what they have in the sport or game but how they have conducted themselves outside. “For me he (Dravid) is somebody I have admired and looked up to, and, he is from Bangalore,” Deepika, whose family is also from the same city, said.

The actress, whose fight with depression is a much-discussed topic in popular circles, said mental strength and endurance are as important as physical strength. “At times you feel your body is not keeping up with the mind. I think sometimes it’s the mind that takes over – and nurturing that is very important.

“A young athlete will figure that along the way, but they should pay attention to that – the grit, courage, determination and spirit is important,” Deepika Padukone, daughter of India’s legendary badminton player Prakash Padukone, added. Deepika is receiving a lot of positive feedback over the posters and teasers of ‘Chhappak’, which is also her debut production. She plays the role of an acid survivor Malti in the Meghna Gulzar directorial.
