Young Australian fast bowler Joel Paris has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a shin injury. The news came from his Sheffield side Western Australian Cricket Association.

Paris was supposed to play for Delhi Daredevils after being picked by the franchise for INR 30 lakhs (AUD $63,000) in the Players auction. Paris picked up the shin injury during Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield campaign and now joins the long list of Australian fast bowler marred by injuries.

The left-armer made his first-class debut for WA in November last year before being picked in the national team to play in the One-Day International series against India in January on the back of solid performances for the Perth Scorchers in the BBL. He played in two games in the five-match series and took just one wicket. His sole wicket in the series was Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan in his second game. In the Sheffield Shield matches, Paris played in 6 matches and picked an impressive 35 wickets at 19.57.

“I knew at some point there would be a bit of a niggle or a setback like that, so I am not too fussed at all,” Paris recently told ABC Perth. “I think it is a pretty good time to freshen up and have some time off.”

Nathan Coulter-Nile now remains the only Australian in the Delhi Daredevils playing squad. Delhi side, which has undergone a massive changeover will begin their IPL campaign under the leadership of Indian bowling great Zaheer Khan against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday (April 10).
