Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan was involved in a bizarre incident during a group stage clash between Legends of Rupganj and Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) on April 26 (Tuesday). The incident occurred when Shakib was on the field during the second innings of the match, as a fan entered the field and ran towards the left-handed all-rounder to take a selfie.

Seeing some abnormality, the security officials deployed on the ground rushed to catch the intruder and were successful as well.  According to bdcrictime, as the guards were trying to detain the intruder, Rupganj captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza stopped the guards and asked the guards to let go of the fan. As a result, he was freed and he left the premises after leaping over the fence, just as he came.

Shakib Al Hasan, however, was kind towards the fan and took a selfie as well. Moreover, Mortaza’s gesture towards the fan was also hailed as he requested the guards not to detain him. The fan also had mask on his face while clicking a selfie with the superstar cricketer.

Rupganj thrash their opponents by 196 runs

As far as the match is concerned, the Rupganj’s skipper won the toss and opted to have a bat first. His decision was proven right as both openers Irfan Sukku (29 off 47 balls) and Raqibul Hasan (47 off 56 balls) provided a stable start. After the openers were dismissed, senior batter Sabbir Rahman (90 off 83 balls) and Naeem Islam (42 off 68 balls) took the charge.

Meanwhile, Shakib (59 off 26 balls) played a blistering knock and provided an excellent finish for his team. For Gazi Group, Khaled Ahmed, Rakibul Atik, and Maraj Mahbub scalped two wickets each, as Rupganj finished on 293/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

In reply, Gazi Group batters did not even put up a fight. Batters Arafat Sunny Junior (19 off 15 balls), SM Meherob (27 off 56 balls), and Husna Habib Mehedi (32 off 50 balls) were the only batters to cross the double-digit mark as the bowling side completed a dominating show by scalping all ten wickets for only 97 runs.

For Rupganj, Chirag Jani (5 wickets), Al-Amin Hossain (2 wickets), Naeem Islam (2 wickets) Shakib (one wicket) were the successful bowlers. Skipper Mortaza and Nabil Samad were the other two bowlers used by the winning team.
