The 22 yards that was used for the third Test match between India and England has now come under immense scrutiny. The match was over within the first two days, and the spinners reigned supreme. Several former cricketers, including the likes of David Lloyd and Michael Vaughan, have bashed the pitch and the way it behaved. And now, Yuvraj Singh has joined in as well and has let his thoughts known to the world about the pitch.

Yuvraj was of the view that if the likes of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh had bowled on this type of pitch, they would have ended up with 1000 and 800 wickets respectively. He also indicated in his tweet that such a pitch did nothing for the betterment of Test match cricket. He ended his tweet by congratulating Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ishant Sharma. And for his tweet, Yuvraj was mercilessly bashed up by fans on Twitter.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli defend Ahmedabad pitch

Two of India’s batting stalwarts, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both defended the pitch that was used at Ahmedabad. While Rohit stated that it was still a nice wicket to bat on and it had no demons in it, Kohli stated that the batsmen needed to trust their defense a little more on this type of surface.

As far as the match is concerned, the Indian side pummeled the England outfit by 10 wickets in what was a one-sided affair. Even though the batsmen from both sides struggled to get going, the Indian spinners proved to be way more effective than the England spinners.

While Axar Patel scalped a whopping 11 wickets in the match, spin legend Ravichandran Ashwin took 7 wickets. Such was the nature of the pitch that even Joe Root scalped a 5-wicket haul in the first innings.

But in the end, the Indian side took a 2-1 lead in the series and have kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final alive. On the other hand, a loss in the third Test means that England are now out of the WTC race. The series is not over yet. There is still one more Test to be played, and a lot of drama can be expected in the 4th rubber as well.
