Having clean-swept Pakistan 3-0 in the ODIs, England clinched the following T20I series 2-1 to stamp a dominating 5-1 scoreline in their recently-concluded home series. Following that, England pacer Stuart Broad feels that the Eoin Morgan-led team is a certain contender to lift the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Notably, England did script a turnaround after they were mauled by the visitors in the first fixture of the 20-over series in Nottingham, falling 31 runs short while chasing a record 232. The loss had left hosts with the only option of winning both the subsequent encounters to claim a stake on the series and that they did in some style to reinforce that they are one of the finest sides in white-ball cricket.

The series-levelling 45-run win in Leeds had poised the series tantalizingly for a decider in Manchester, where England spinner Adil Rashid spun a web around Pakistan, claiming 4/35 in his full quota. Pakistan had started on a positive note after opting to bat, however, losing wickets in a string did not help their cause, with only Mohammad Rizwan managing to script a noteworthy performance. On the back of his 57-ball 76, Pakistan posted 154/6.

In their trademark style, England flew off the blocks quickly, with Jason Roy smashing the leather hard. But much like their rivals, England lost wickets quickly in the middle overs as the Pakistan spinners chipped in.

Chasing below eight runs an over meant that England did not fall too far behind in the chase, but when Mohammed Hafeez struck twice in the penultimate over and sent back both Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone, the game was suspended in balance. Needing six to win off the last over, England also lost Eoin Morgan but ended up on the right side nonetheless.

Dwayne Bravo’s jibe at Stuart Broad

Appreciating the team and captain’s effort, Broad stated, I was just watching Morgs (Eoin Morgan) lift the trophy there and I think we’re going to win the World Cup.” Dwayne Bravo, meanwhile, took a jibe stating, “Didn’t know Stuart Broad turn comidian now. All the best to all teams tho let’s wait and see.”

Notably, West Indies are one of the strongest contenders of the T20 World Cup and have only recently steamrolled visitors 4-1 in a home T20I series. However, before that, they lost against South Africa 2-3 in a closely fought home series. That said, West Indies are currently the defending champions, having won the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup, and their T20 might is hidden from none. “Let’s wait and see” might not be the worst choice for either England, West Indies, or the other participants, then.
