Dinesh Karthik becomes 4th player to feature in 150 IPL matches

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik became the fourth player in the history of the Indian Premier League to feature in 150 matches. Karthik achieved the feat when he turned up for the Gujarat Lions in the match against the Kings XI Punjab at Mohali. He has been a decent performer in the tournament history with impressive numbers to back his talent.
Over the years, Dinesh Karthik has represented as many as 5 franchises in the IPL. The teams has he has played for in the 10-year long illustrious history of the T20 league are as follows – Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, and the Gujarat Lions. The Tamil Nadu veteran had 2863 runs to his name at an average just under 25 when he breached the 150 appearances in the IPL.
The first player to have played 150 matches in the IPL was Suresh Raina. Raina had been a regular face in the Chennai Superkings in the first 8 editions of the tournament. He still holds the distinction of having made most number of consecutive appearances in the tournament. Prior to the game against the Delhi Daredevils on May 10, 2017, the current Gujarat Lions skipper Suresh Raina had featured in 159 IPL matches.
He had 4532 runs to his name in those many matches with a top score of unbeaten 100. He averaged almost 35 with the bat. Rising Pune Supergiant wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni also has 155 names to his name. Along with Raina, he was the main force for the Chennai Superkings in the first 8 editions of the tournament. Dhoni led the CSK team to two title triumphs.
The third player to have featured in the 150 matches in the IPL was Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. Rohit also has been a perennial performer in the history of the tournament. Only two wicket-keeper batsmen feature in the list with Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni being the two players.
