It has been a disappointing performance from Virat Kohli in Indian Premier League 2022, as he registered his second successive duck in Match 36 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In eight appearances, he has garnered 119 runs at an average of 17. Game after game, there have been cricket pundits suggesting the former RCB captain should take a break for a few matches or months. The latest to have an opinion on this matter is the former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer.

Jaffer reckoned it’s disheartening to see the present form of Kohli, where he is failing to provide a contribution to RCB this season. He felt that the 33-year-old batter has a terrific intensity during his practice sessions, and it is a matter of concern, that he has not been able to do well during the match. He advised Kohli to take a break for one or two months to rejuvenate himself and come back relaxed, without the pressure of his performance.

“It has to do more with the mind. It’s disheartening to see Virat Kohli like that because we know how big a player he is. For us, to see him fail again and again. Because of the intensity during his practice session in the nets, it’s very sad to see. I sometimes feel, if I could advise him would be to take a break for a month or two months break, which will do him a lot of good. A break is better than practicing more in the nets at this time. He will have a fresh perspective. He himself does not have the habit to fail for this many times,” said Wasim Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

On most of the occasions in the IPL, Kohli has batted at the no.3 position and has made his own due to his terrific performances. Jaffer thinks Kohli has always come at a critical situation with the ball swinging around and has eventually given away his wickets. He suggested that the former RCB captain can bat at the no.5 position to get a few good knocks under his belt and then switch back to the no.3 position with the confidence.

“He has gone 100 innings without any century in all the formats, which is something unheard of for somebody who is the no.1 player in the world. One thing he can try is coming at no.5, as every time he has come at the crease, he has faced a swinging ball that is not working for him. If he bats in the lower positions, he can get a couple of good knocks and then shift to his favorite no.3 position,” Jaffer added.
