The central contracts for cricketers have recently been announced where players have been bifurcated into four groups. They have duly been rewarded for their stupendous performances for the national team. However, most recently, the coaches in the Indian domestic circuit also demanded a hike in annual pay package. The recommendation was one of the many suggestions which were put forward at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conclave.
Increase in pay
One Ranji captain is learned to have asked for contracts with retainership clauses for domestic cricketers. Meanwhile, the BCCI has also announced a 200% hike in the earnings of domestic cricketers. The conclave commenced with Rahul Johri, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the BCCI addressing the attendants with the assurance to sort out payments to players and coaches in due course.
Meanwhile, some coaches revealed that they haven’t yet been reimbursed their daily allowance for the last couple of years. There were several other suggestions highlighted in the conclave. Last year, 57% of the games played in the Ranji Trophy resulted in an outright result. However, a number of captains mentioned that the abolition of the Plate and the Elite system meant that the smaller teams aren’t motivated enough to roll over the big boys to get themselves promoted.
Some of them suggested that the Decision Review System should also be included in the domestic circuit as it’s now a part of the Indian Premier League. Some players also complained about the SG White balls and recommended the usage of Kookaburra balls because of it being used in international games. Division of 28 teams into three groups instead of four has also been suggested by teams. Meanwhile, a former Indian player has also asked for a captain’s report which would be filed at the end of each game.
