Don't think of just winning a match, we are motivated to win Test series in South Africa: Virat Kohli

India is scheduled to play three Test matches and as many ODIs against South Africa starting from December 26. Ahead of the series, India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli has said that the team is all raring to make a larger impact on the tour. He asserted that the team had emerged triumphant in challenging conditions in the last match of their previous tour and that will fetch in a lot of motivation for them.

India hasn’t yet won a Test series in South Africa. The visitors lost the previous Test series against the Proteas 2-0. However, India had exuded great character to secure an impressive win in the last Test match at the Wanderers by 63 runs. According to Kohli, this will give the side a lot of confidence.

Considering India’s recent performances in the overseas conditions a lot of hopes are pinned on the team to dominate the proceedings in South Africa this time around. Kohli reckoned that the team has enough experience and belief to do something special on this tour. He also added that the team’s mindset is to win the series and not just a single Test match.

“We can take a lot of motivation from that. We probably won in the toughest conditions on that tour. That should give us a lot of confidence. If we start off well, then we can definitely stand up to any challenge that comes our way and takes a lot of heart from it.

South Africa is one place where we have not won a series yet so we are very motivated to do that. The mindset is always to go out there and win a series in any country that we play. We don’t think of just winning a Test match here and there anymore and we will do our absolute best to make sure we keep contributing towards that cause. We will take a lot of motivation and belief from that victory.

This is something we have controlled in the recent past with more experience and guys understanding how to play in these conditions against the quick bowlers and how to transition their innings through the day so they can bat long. I think we are very well placed in terms of experience and belief that we can do something special as a team… overcome probably the toughest conditions and win a series there,” Kohli said in a media interaction.
