One of Bangladesh’s premier pace bowlers, Rubel Hossain, recently underwent a jaw surgery. He had broken his jaw during the recent tour of England where he was with the national side participating in the ICC Champions Trophy. Apparently, it was a collision with the door that saw him breaking his jaw. The unfortunate incident took place in the team hotel on June 15 at Birmingham.

The team had returned back to the hotel after their semi-final defeat against the Indian team in the premier competition. He is now expected to miss at least one month of cricket action due to the injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physician Monirul Amin noted that Rubel Hossain had his surgery on Wednesday (June 21).

He will require about four to six weeks to completely recover from the injury. He is hopeful to see Rubel back in action after the recovery period and be available for selections for the upcoming Test series against Australia.

“We hope he will be fine after that period, and make himself available for selection for the Australia series,” Amin told AFP. Team Bangladesh is scheduled to play Australia in the two-match Test series which commences in late August. Team Australia has named a full strength squad for the series.

Recent form

Talking about the recent form, Rubel Hossain played all the four games for Bangladesh in the recently concluded Champions Trophy. However, he failed to impress with the ball. In the four matches that he played, he could only take 2 wickets.

Team Bangladesh, though, had a merry time in the tournament as they ended up making it to the semi-finals. En route the semi-finals, they had registered a historic win against New Zealand. This was the first instance when Bangladesh made it to the semi-finals of a major ICC global event. They lost to India in the semis by 9 wickets.
