DPL match officials escape with minor injuries after being attacked by local workers

The Dhaka Premier League is now in the news for events that have taken place outside the cricket field. A few match officials who were traveling to the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan were attacked during a protest that was going on between some garment workers and the police.
The eight officials who were caught in this violent clash are umpires Shaifuddin, Abdullah Al Motin, Tanvir Ahmed, Imran Parvez, Sohrab Hossain, and Baraktullah Turkey. The two match referees are Adil Ahmed and Debabrata Paul.
The car that they were traveling in was destroyed as well. There are also reports from eyewitnesses that state that the cars were held up for around 15 to 20 minutes after which the officials escaped. These umpires and match referees reached the venue for the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) clash and the match commenced after a brief delay of half an hour.

Kazi Inam Ahmed, the chairman of the cricket committee of Dhaka Metropolis stated that the match officials showed a lot of courage and added that the match commenced at 09:30 AM. He concluded by stating that even though the officials had four police escorts with them, the police were up against a large number of workers.
“The match officials showed great courage in the face of such an incident. They could start the matches at 9:30 am. The match officials had a police escort but four of them were facing thousands of people in that protest,” said Kazi Inam Ahmed as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
As far as the cricketing action is concerned, the Prime Back Cricket Club is occupying the top place in the Dhaka Premier League points table after winning 6 out of the 7 matches that they have contested in. On the other hand, the Partex Sporting Club is languishing at the last place in the table, after losing 7 matches that they have featured in the tournament.
While Mahmudul Hasan Joy is the highest run-scorer in the tournament thus far and has amassed 262 runs, Tanvir Islam is the highest wicket-taker in the competition and has scalped 14 wickets.
