Dressing room chaos affecting Dhoni’s performance, says personal coach Chanchal Bhattacharya: Bangladesh wraps up the series 2-0 with a game to be played as Indian side faces heavy criticism from fans and media for losing the first ever series against Bangladesh. It was conspicuous that Bangladesh outplayed India by a fair margin in both matches. They were the deserving winners, as Indian players failed to deliver the goods.
Amidst the tense situation Dhoni’s personal coach Chanchal Bhattacharya has revealed some shocking news as he said: “Dhoni has spoken about stepping down as captain. I feel the dressing room environment isn’t in sync with what he wishes it to be”.
The shocking defeat seemed to have caused some chaos in the dressing room. Bhattacharya feels that Dhoni’s performances have been hindered by the unrest in dressing room. “I can’t be certain about the goings-on in the dressing room but one should be free minded and without any tension to lead a team. But something is definitely affecting his mindset and stopping him from playing freely,” he said.
Dhoni doesn’t mind stepping down as a captain and has said that he would do anything for Indian team’s success. It’s apparent that Dhoni is in a state of distress as he said, “I was never really in line to become the captain, but it was given to me. Now if you take it away from me, I will still be happy because what is more important for me is to play for the country and contribute to a win.”
“If it is justified that you remove me and Indian cricket will start doing well, then definitely I would love to step aside and play as just a player. Ultimately, it is most important for India to win and not who is leading them to the win.”
Dhoni has taken the responsibility for the teams consecutive defeats against Bangladesh. The team selection has been poor this series as dropping Rahane proved to be a mistake as well. He has been India’s best captain leading India to glory on many occasions. And it’s unfair to ask Dhoni to step down as a captain for just two defeats, though against a weaker opponent like Bangladesh. It’s sad that the media has made Dhoni as the scapegoat for the humiliation suffered by the Indian team.
